What really inspired me to start having a go at making stuff was getting into Steampunk with my partner a few years ago. Where at first I was simply gazing at all the astounding things other people made, after a while I thought I might try myself!

Since then I have been going through brief but busy periods of putting kit together, either to be worn by one of us, or to be attached to our wheelchairs. Most things were built for my partner and later put on my own chair as we ran out of space on hers!

Where it all began – Spacetime anomaly scanners

As my partner’s character is hunting for wormholes, the natural place to start a few years ago was the construction of Spacetime Anomaly Scanners, which can guide a determined researcher to sources of Mardon particles and thus provide – theoretically – direct access to subspace instabilities.

Particle Analyser

It is a lot easier to detect Mardon particles than it is to determine their specific – usually miniscule and short-lived – sources. Therefore this device was constructed to better record and analyse patterns in particle detection, gathering the hard data required to develop a better understanding of subspace anomalies and their potential to revolutionise travel through space and time.

Lightsabre

A new build for a friend. I had wanted to make one of those for decades. When the photographs were taken, I forgot to switch on the bright green LED illuminating the valve at the top.

Other equipment, storage and its arrangement

Gauntlets

Goggles and guns

Operating in difficult circumstances, including extreme library environments, forces both of us to take precautions.

Power packs and the telescope

Mechanical bee

I was given this wonderful bee as a present. The original glass cylinder broke quickly due to my clumsiness. It was replaced with a sturdier valve and mounted on a rotating stand.

Tea Duelling Trophies

To provide athletes with reminders of their triumphs.

Decorations

Not everthing made has a function, some things are simply decorative. The fantastic kit for spaceship model (as well as seventy percent of all cogs I use!) was made by the lovely people at Cog ‘O’ Two (please check their website, they are brilliant and all their stuff is of excellent quality).
